We're Mecanica Antiques seekers of the elusive and dedicated to cool. Situated in the beautiful, Litchfield Hills of CT, in the little but mighty town of New Preston.
If you are looking for Advertising, Mid Century Modern, Industrial or something that's just different, quirky or unusual, we're the place for you! The things that are pleasing to our eyes are objects that are structurally and architecturally grounded. Think Frank Lloyd Wright, Meis Van Der Rohe, I M Pei, Herman Miller... And we are big fans of objects that can tell a story by just glancing at their time acquired patina.
Along with our lovely little store you can find us on any given Sunday at the Elephants Trunk Flea Market in New Milford CT, Brimfield Flea Market up in Brimfield MA and we also can run your Estate Sale! No home is to big or too small. Just send us and email and let us know how we can be of service to you!
So don't hesitate to stop into our store, be it brick and mortar or virtual and check us out on Chairish! Also what you see on our site is also for sale in the shop so call or send us an email because, as quickly as things come in the door, they just as quickly go out!
See you all soon at Mecanica Antiques!
Sarah Hamilton & Joe Snow
Joe and Sarah make a great antiquing couple because Joe loves to dig around in the barns and the attics with the cob webs and the dirt while Sarah loves to clean and sell the things he finds! Both Joe and Sarah grew up in Connecticut.
While Sarah went off to earn a BFA from NYU, Joe went to Rhode Island School of Photography and honed his craft in as many punk rock shows as possible. His love for antiques started very early going to tag sales with his mother as a little kid then moving out to California with his skateboard and traveling all over the country with his VW Bus. While living in New York City, Sarah went to the Brooklyn Flea and then she moved to London and while there she went to "car boot sales".
They met as kids while going to local underground music shows in CT but went in different directions as people often do in their twenties. Fast forward to 2011 and blame it on the internet and Facebook as two 'old' friends got together to 'catch up' and, well... the rest is history.
They are planning a trip to Europe in the fall of 2018 to see what the European antique world has in store for them! Fingers crossed Sarah finds a Lambretta scooter still in a crate and never been opened... a girl can dream, can't she?
